This past week two of our BTC Racing HGV drivers gave their time and effort
and delivered 30 tons of critical humanitarian aid within 20 miles of the
With volunteers from Westbury they loaded 30 tons of aid onto a truck supplied by 24hr Solutions. The aid was donated by the generosity of the people of Westbury and surrounding areas. Leaving early on the Tuesday our drivers started their 3600km journey across the width of Europe, overcoming the many different languages as they went.
As our drivers headed away from their families and towards the Ukrainian border, it soon become evident the scale of the amount of refugees fleeing the war and the increased military presence. Bus after bus of exhausted women and children being taken to places of safety
Our drivers arrived on the Thursday where they were met by a local charity and were escorted to the delivery point. At -10 degrees, unloading commenced and the vital aid was transferred over ready for distribution to those in need.
After unloading, “Sofia” who normally processes the refugees over the border, described the situation as devastating. She described how earlier that day a father arrived at the border with his two young children, giving them one last hug before passing them over to officials with nothing more than their passports and a phone number in hand.
The last image of their father through the tears was him driving back in to the country he loves, to defend its freedom.
After spending the night within 20miles of the border our drivers with somber feeling knowing they were leaving people who had lost everything, made the journey back to the UK.
All the aid was kindly donated by the wonderful people of this country, we thank each and every one of you that has and continues to donate. With Europe experiencing a larger influx of refugees since WW2, everyone’s support is making a big difference.
This transport of aid wasn’t possible without the backing of many including,
BTC Racing owner Steve Dudman, 24hr Solutions, Smart TMS, Bespoke Freight Handling
and all our friends and family that donated.
