BTC Racing confirm Jason Plato for the 2022 BTCC season

BTC Racing has today (6 April) confirmed that double champion Jason Plato will be

piloting the squad’s third Honda Civic Type R in the 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring

Car Championship.

The 97-time race winner is itching to get started in his Honda Civic Type R alongside team returnees Josh Cook and Jade Edwards. He had a brief test in the car during the BTCC’s hybrid installation day at Donington Park last week and says he has already spotted some winning potential in the combination. “I have worked with some world-class people and with world-class teams, and I was hugely impressed by BTC Racing after just one outing when them. There are some very clever brains at the team, and everyone knows exactly what they are doing.”

Plato says that this will be his final season in the British Touring Car Championship. He joined the series in 1997 as a factory Renault driver and has taken part in more than 600 races. He claimed the crown in 2001 and 2010 and says he wants one last campaign to go around the country and say farewell to his fans. The 54-year-old added: “I think I can win races and I still think I can win the championship if everything goes the right way. I want to sign off while I am in a good place. I would rather walk away from the series having won a load of races this year, been in the fight for the championship and having been a contender. That would make me happy and be an excellent way to sign off from the championship”

"We're delighted to welcome Jason to BTC Racing said Team Owner Steve Dudman following BTC's 2022 line-up announcement. Jason has shown what a world class driver he is throughout his career and I have always admired him. Jason is hugely capable of winning races and I'm sure he will be in the championship mix from the start. With his level of experience, technical understanding and natural speed, it'll deliver results – JP has his mojo back for sure. I'm hugely excited to see what can be achieved this year with Jason at BTC Racing and we're looking forward to working with him."

Jason's partnership with specialist motor insurer Adrian Flux will also continue through 2022. Gerry Bucke, general manager of Adrian Flux, said: "Our company has a proud history of supporting motorsport and we're excited that our presence around the BTCC paddock will continue for another year. From sponsoring teams to backing Jason Plato - like we are again in 2022 - the Adrian Flux name has become synonymous with one of the country's most exciting forms of car racing. Put simply, Jason is a legend of the sport and we've loved working with him since 2017. As a co-host of our award-winning motoring podcast Fuelling Around, our relationship with JP extends beyond the race track so we were never going to miss the opportunity to join him, as the checkered flag finally comes down on his incredible BTCC career ." The opening round of the British Touring Car Championship takes place at Donington Park on the National circuit on April 23-24.
